Optical quantum information science

Quantum information has been realized in various media such as trapped ions, superconducting Josephson junctions, and nuclei in molecules, but photons are best for quantum communication tasks such as quantum cryptography. I will give an overview of what has been achieved in optical quantum information science, the key obstacles for sources, processing, memory, and detectors, and what we are doing to overcome these obstacles.
